Painting the Still Life: Shiny & See-Through Objects

February 23 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Dear Painters,

Let’s create some captivating compositions with objects that are reflective (shiny) together with some that are transparent (see-through). There are great lessons here to be learned and practiced that apply to all the paintings we do, including learning to see and render shapes, value and color. Not to mention the fun of painting the reflections in things and learning to paint see-through things. Sound interesting? Sound like fun? Please join me!

Painting the Still Life: Shiny & See-Through Objects

Thursday, February 23rd, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm PT

In my studio or on Zoom

Those joining on Zoom will set up their own still life subjects at home. Those coming to the studio can paint the subjects I’ll set up or bring your own.

I’ll be emailing you all some sample paintings of mine and others for ideas about what to include in your subjects. I recommend using reflective objects such as silver bowls, silverware and perhaps a coffee pot or toaster and transparent objects such as glasses, jars, and bottles. Or any reflective and transparent objects you can think of and put together into a still life composition. Think about using 3 to 5 objects in your composition.

Here’s the idea:

  • The workshop will consist of two 3-hour parts with an hour lunch break from 12:00-1:00.
  • This schedule will give us time to focus with more depth on the key elements of still life: composition, drawing, value, and color.
  • The first part of the day will be spent developing our compositions, drawing them in and doing a value sketch (in ink marker).
  • The second part of the day will be spent developing our full color paint sketches, using a limited color palette.
  • As we progress I’ll be able to review everyone’s work, answer questions, make suggestions, etc.
  • All painting mediums are welcome; paper or canvas as to your preference.
  • I’ll be able to have up to 5 painters in the studio. We’ll take a covid test before coming in so we can all feel safer about spending the day together.
  • Others can join the Zoom workshop on your laptop, desktop or iPad.
  • A materials list – and more details about the process – will be sent to you once you register.

The cost is $135. This amount will be fully refundable up to 3 days prior to the workshop; after that the registration fee is non-refundable.

Please feel free to email me any questions you have to bruce@brucekatzstudio.com

REGISTRATION is a two step process:

1) Send me an email and let me know you’re planning to register so I can put your name on the list.

2) Send me your payment on either PayPal (pay to bruce@brucekatzstudio.com) or Venmo (pay to @Bruce-Katz-9)  or by check. I’ll send you my address if you need it.
