1-day Workshop: Painting With Gouache in the Landscape

August 15, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

For those who want to try out gouache in the landscape, here’s an opportunity. Or if you’d rather use oils or acrylics, that’s fine too. I’ll work with you in whatever medium you choose.

Gouache is a medium that I enjoy using because of it’s fast drying properties and because I like the beautiful finish it produces on paper. For some reason, using gouache encourages me to loosen up…another reason I like it. And it’s great to travel with!

I’ll do a demonstration in gouache, but of course we’ll still focus on all the principles of plein air that are important to the process and to producing satisfying paintings.

The location is TBD (probably a park in SF).

For beginning and intermediate plein air painters that want to learn the process and best practices for painting outdoors in the landscape (“en plein air”). I will work with you individually in a hands-on, step-by-step fashion, guiding you from start to finish of your painting. I’ll focus on aspects of the process including composition, drawing, color, paint handling, and in particular: VALUE!

There will be a limit of 10 students in the workshop.

Materials: A materials list will be emailed to you once you’ve registered, in advance of the workshop. In addition to sketching materials, paints, canvases and brushes, you will need to bring a portable easel.

Cost of workshop: $80. This amount is refundable in full up 2 weeks prior to the workshop.
