1-day Workshop: Finding Values in Plein Air

August 15 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

You know the adage: “Value does all the work; color gets all the credit”. I’d say value – and value design – in your painting play as important a role as composition. Let’s focus on finding values in plein air!

I’ll start this class doing a short value sketch demo on paper, in order to establish the value design in a given scene. Each of you will do the same and we’ll have a value “roadmap” for our paintings.

The location is TBD.

For beginning and intermediate plein air painters that want to learn the process and best practices for painting outdoors in the landscape (“en plein air”). I will work with you individually in a hands-on, step-by-step fashion, guiding you from start to finish of your painting. I’ll focus on aspects of the process including composition, drawing, color, paint handling, and in particular: VALUE!

There will be a limit of 10 students in the workshop.

Materials: A materials list will be emailed to you once you’ve registered, in advance of the workshop. In addition to sketching materials, paints, canvases and brushes, you will need to bring a portable easel.

Cost of workshop: $80. This amount is refundable in full up 2 weeks prior to the workshop.
