Learn best practices and technique for painting from photos. I’ll focus on key aspects of the painting process: selecting the composition, transferring the drawing, creating the right colors and values and improving your brushwork.
You’ll need to bring a digital image of the painting to class on an iPad and I’ll demonstrate how you’ll go about transferring a drawing of the photo onto your canvas. Please download the app “Jackson’s Art Grid” to your device, which we’ll be using to do that. If it’s not possible to bring the digital image, we’ll be able to work with a quality printout of your photo.
I’ll do several demonstrations during the course of the day, followed by each of you working on the next stage of your paintings. I’ll work with you individually, in a hands-on, step-by-step fashion, guiding you from start to finish and focusing on all aspects of the process.
A materials list – including instructions about loading the app onto your iPad – will be sent to you upon registration.
The workshop will be held in my studio at Hunter Point Shipyard, San Francisco and is limited to 7 people.
Cost of workshop: $80. This amount is refundable in full up to 2 weeks prior to the workshop; after that the registration fee is non-refundable but can be transferable.
