1-day Studio Workshop: Value & Color
February 6 @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm$80
No matter what subject matter you’re painting (landscape, still life, portrait) or what your reference is (painting from life in your studio, painting plein air or using photos), value and color are the two most important things you’ll need to address. They’re the two things that will really make a big difference in the quality of your painting.
Join me in this 1-day workshop and let’s spend a day practicing the following:
1. Value: How to identify a range of values in your subject matter in order to create perspective and realism in your painting; How to keep those values clearly differentiated in the painting process; How to express a range of values in a given color.
2. Color: How to mix the colors you see you want to paint; How to saturate/de-saturate colors to create realism and perspective in your paintings; How to change the “color temperature” (cool, warm) in order to express your subject accurately.
We’ll do a series of exercises, focusing on a variety of objects on the table. You’ll come away with the skills to express a clear value design in your paintings and the confidence to mix whatever colors you want to achieve.
The workshop is geared for newer and intermediate painters; for anyone who wants to continue to develop their painting skills. This workshop will help you take a leap forward in the quality of your work.
The workshop will be held in my studio at Hunters Point Shipyard, San Francisco. It’s limited to a maximum of 7 students. Painters are welcome to paint in oil, acrylic, gouache or other water-based paints. A materials list will be sent to you upon registration in advance of the workshop.
Cost of workshop: $80. This amount is refundable in full up to 1 week prior to the workshop; after that the registration fee is non-refundable.
To register: Just let me know via email that you want to register and pay the registration fee on PayPal (send $80 to Bruce Katz Studio (firstname.lastname@example.org). Or email me for my address to send a check.
